Following from Dan’s post yesterday about our one year anniversary in Australia, I also wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that has been following us on our journey so far. We hope to see you throughout 2014.
Here’s a quick look at how we celebrated via the medium of food. Christmas excess has also hit the wallet, so we kept it simple and went to Italian restaurant Casa di Nico on King’s Street Wharf in Sydney. We have been here a few times before and it does great pizzas and pasta dishes. One of the few Italians to get Dan’s approval on the spaghetti bolognese dish!
I often go for meaty pizzas, so I decided to choose something a bit different this time and went for the prawn pizza (Gamberi) with goat’s milk feta, rocket, semi-dried tomatoes and chilli. It was a very pleasant surprise, and I may even have a new favourite! The pepper taste of the rocket was just perfect alongside the prawns, with a little dash of heat from the chilli. The pizzas here are made on a thin and crispy base which I really like.
Dan also took a deviation from the pasta and chose the Tropicana pizza with double smoked ham, caramelised pineapple, roma tomatoes, mozzarella, parsley and he requested some additional chilli. The topping was really generous and he almost finished the lot.
We received a bottle of champagne from some very kind friends over Christmas, so this was put to good use to toast an even better second year in Australia!
