Lunch at The Dining Room in Sydney

We’ve just had a pretty wet weekend, which I’m very pleased to say doesn’t happen very often here in Sydney.  So it was time to take advantage of one of the more cosier places in the city to escape the rain and enjoy a long lunch.  We decide to splurge a little and treat ourselves to The Dining Room restaurant at the Park Hyatt in Circular Quay.

Ok I’ll be honest… we were helped a little by the beloved Entertainment Card on this one!  It was such a lovely and relaxing afternoon, enjoying great food and a lovely – albeit rain covered – view.  The menu is not that extensive but still has a  good variety of different flavours and dishes to suit most tastes.  I chose the pasture fed beef tenderloin (cooked rare of course!) with potato puree and truffle jus – look how fantastic it looked!

This dish was absolutely delicious, the beef was cooked perfectly and very tender and tasty.  The jus had real depth and was a flavoursome accompaniment to the beef.  I didn’t want it to end!

Dan chose another beef dish on the menu; the Rangers Valley sirloin with roasted potatoes, mushrooms and spring onion.  This was presented so beautifully as you can see.

However the sirloin was cooked medium despite Dan asking for rare so he did send it back.  He was a bit reluctant to do so, but since the sirloin carries a $15 surcharge above all other main courses, I convinced him he should have it the way he likes!  The staff were very accommodating and apologetic – and the next one that came out was almost still mooing!  But that’s just how he likes it, so it was worth the effort.  It certainly did not tarnish our overall experience.

We were having such a lovely time, I decided to try their cheese selection dish for dessert.  Readers will know that cheese is one of favourite things!  The menu offered a selection of Australian cheeses and what I loved about this is that I could chose the ones I wanted from a few they had available.  I had cheddar, goats cheese and brie to enjoy with a glass of red.

It was just the right serving and given the fact that the weather was not letting up, I took my time to enjoy it.  We ended up staying for nearly two and a half hours in total!  This is definitely a special treat place, and we absolutely loved it.  I’m sure we’ll find an excuse to try it out on a sunny view day too!
