This weekend was the the Darling Harbour Fiesta Festival and after a little walk around the stands and music stages yesterday, we decided on a spot of lunch in Criniti’s. Most of you will know that this is a chain of restaurants that offer a bit of everything and while I wouldn’t call it a special occasion kind of place, I felt compelled to share this lovely dish I had there.
This week was a little bad on the diet front for me, so after a morning gym session I decided to keep up my good work and opt for a salad. For a menu that tries to cover every taste, their salad options are actually really varied and interesting. I have had the black rice salad before when I was on the Blackmores detox and it was pretty good.
This time I chose the Mediterraneo, which consisted of lettuce, roma tomatoes, red onion, feta cheese (can never resist cheese!), cucumber, wood fired roasted red capsicum and white balsamic dressing. There is an option to add prawns, char-grilled chicken, lamb or octopus. I opted for the prawns and also requested to swap olives for avocado – yes, I was one of those annoying people!
The salad arrived in a large bowl and it was a generous portion with plenty of each ingredient in it. The prawns were so juicy and the flavours went so well together. There were many of my favourite foods all in one bowl; I devoured the lot!
Dan went for the spaghetti aglio e olio con peperoncino which is spaghetti with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, chilli and parsley, and he included the optional extra of king prawn cutlets. It looks fantastic to me, but he said he would have preferred a sauce with it as it was a little dry. Maybe next time! He’s had the meatballs here before which were better I think.
And he certainly didn’t complain about the backdrop of professional salsa dancers that we got to watch from our balcony seats…!
