Birthday treat at Black By Ezard

Yesterday was my 29th (and therefore last ever) birthday and Dan treated me to a wonderful meal at steak restaurant Black by Ezard in Pyrmont, Sydney.  There is an amazing three-course Sunday menu on offer there, with unlimited champagne – it was incredible!

I started with prawns, sauteed spencer gulf, white cheese polenta, compressed watermelon, jalapeno peppers, roast corn salad, crispy pancetta which as you can see looked very impressive – so many wonderful flavours on one plate!.  And it tasted as good as it looks!

Next up was a rare fillet steak served with chips.  I absolutely LOVE a steak, and this one was very high up there on my list.  It was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. It was served with chips and we chose green beans as an additional side.

And finally, one of my favourite things in the world…a cheese board to finish off.  And what a board this was! We were served four different types of cheese – goats cheese, brie, cheddar (and Stilton which isn’t my bag), and each one was matched to its own jam or chutney. There was a  carrot chutney to match the cheddar, a cinnamon chutney for the brie and a berry chutney with the goats cheese.  I haven’t seen that before and combining each pairing tasted irresistible together.  Let’s just say I was very glad of the loose fitting dress!

The staff here at Black By Ezard were very attentive (my glass was never empty!) and they treated us to a cellar tour after the meal.  As it was my birthday, I also received a voucher for my next visit – which won’t be far away I expect!  Thank you Black by Ezard – and thank very much Dan for a truly wonderful afternoon.
